AUSTIN, TEXAS

IMG_5399I recently explored the city of Austin , Texas… and by explore I mean eat my way through the city lol. Austin is an outdoor city.  People who live there are pretty active- many people jog around Lady Bird Lake, Kayak, hike, etc. When I went the weather wasn’t great so didn’t really do any of that, and instead I just ate. Typical.  But Austin is a great food city so I can’t complain 🙂 I wanted to share some of my favorite things I ate and did on my trip.  See below!

photoTORCHY’S TACOS!

I was recommended to go to Torchy’s Tacos. Austin has so many great food trucks around the city. I think I ate out of a truck most of the weekend. Torchy’s Tacos was really good.  I stayed at the W Hotel located in Downtown Austin, but I couldn’t walk to Torchy’s Tacos I had to cab it.  It’s on a little dirt lot with a couple other food trucks off of a main road. There are a couple Torchy’s Tacos locations around the city. By the time the weekend was over  I ate enough tacos to last me a lifetime.

photo 1 DONUTS AT GORDOUGHS!

Another place that was recommended to me was Gordough’s for donuts. It was also located on a little food truck lot off the side of the highway, but there is also Gordough’s restaurant. I went to the food truck location around 11pm on a Saturday night and the line was so long.  I realized that any famous food place in Austin had a long wait. I waited in line for around 45 minutes (when I don’t even love donuts), but wanted to see what they hype was about. They have really unique flavors and combinations. We got the “Naughty & Nice” and the “Granny’s Pie”. You can also customize your own donut which is pretty cool. Was it worth the wait? No. It was good, but I would never wait there again.

A NIGHT OUT IN AUSTIN…

DECIDED TO GO BAR HOPPING AFTER GRABBING SOME DONUTS AT GORDOUGH’S!

You must eat BBQ when in Austin. Rudy’s is a classic BBQ spot in Austin. It was delicious. Next time I will go to Salt Lick BBQ which is the most famous BBQ in Austin. I had it in the airport and it was amazing but didn’t have time to go to the real one.

photo 3Everyone was saying you have to try “queso” while in Texas. They offer queso in most restaurants and it’s basically queso fundido, which is just melted cheese. It has the consistency of nacho cheese.  The one I ordered above was from Lamberts, which is another popular restaurant in Downtown Austin. I seriously could make a meal out of this. We ordered it as an appetizer but I pretty much ate the whole damn thing to myself lol. So make sure you try queso when you are in Texas!
